About Me
Fine Artist & Mural Artist Gina Watkinson creates a varied portfolio of work for both private and commercial, including bars restaurants and hotels. She works using a mix of media from oils and acrylics to Venetian plasters and Italian luxury paints. This produces highly original pieces available on canvass , board or direct onto walls . Specialising in surface design and hand painted images combined with mineral plasters of silky or matte finishes and stunning metallics and textures for a more contemporary feel.
Venetian plaster has various finishes and is always unique, tailor your walls or your art piece to your design needs creating that wow factor. Large landscape paintings of dramatic moody moorlands and oriental inspired decorative pieces with exotic looking birds and flowers combine her love of nature with more illustrative images.
Personal Artwork
Textured semi abstract landscapes using mixed media . Taking inspiration from the local moorlands I find myself drawn to the huge expanse of sky and space and the way the light shifts and changes with the weather . The wildness of a blustery stormy sky and pooling reflective expanses of water.
Japanese Influenced Paintings
I like to use the oxidisation process of natural aiging and patina as a background to illustrative figurative and organic imagery as it links suggestively to the Japanese Zen approach to life and art . The concept of Wabi -Sabi includes the impermanent made more beautiful because like the cherry blossom and earthy beauty it doesn’t last forever.
Mural Work
Mural work is any art painted directly onto walls. It is a collaboration between artist and client and can take inspiration from the existing colour palette and design of the room or create a totally unique environment. They can be full wall size or smaller illustrative designs to fit certain areas of the room for example above a bed or in an alcove.
Italian Plaster & Paints
I can’t enthuse enough about these products and techniques. They provide unlimited possibilities to be creative with texture, colours and surface design . With these products we can make bespoke , unique finishes for walls and add texture and depth . Novacolour Italian products create walls that are works of art. They are high end luxury products.
Novacolour decorative finishes such as the precious metal paints create light and movement and the mineral textures recall the cultural heritage.
This can be combined with fresco mural painting to give the look of beautiful ancient villa walls
